Ngqushwa Local Municipality
The Ngqushwa Bee Keeping project was established by nine co-operatives around year 2004. Most of these co-operatives were operating on their own, receiving support from different stakeholders such DRDAR and Ngqushwa Local Municipality.
Harmony Gold appreciated the Bee keeping project and demonstrate interest for the project and later stated their intention to fund the establishment of a honey processing plant in order to assist the Bee-Keepers in Ngqushwa. The main objective of the project is to develop the honey industry in Ngqushwa Local Municipality, create sustainable jobs for the community, and to improve the involvement of the communities in high value bee keeping enterprise.
The construction of the project will start in July 2021.
