Tender Reference:ASPIRE 011-2014

The purpose of this tender is to identify an immediate and once off supplier to Provide Training to Cooperatives at the Cooperatives Development Centre, based in Mnquma Local Municipality, in Business Skills Development

Amathole District Municipality has identified through the Integrated Development Plan, Co-operative Development as one of the key sectors that can contribute to economic development of the area. When compared to other forms of enterprises, the role of cooperatives also includes community development, hence the principle of concern for the community.

Co-operatives are seen as having a dual role of both economic and social development. For this reason they are often cited as important strategic interventions in the fight against poverty and under development in poor communities, particularly at local municipal level. ADM together with ASPIRE are in the processes of providing support to fully develop these Cooperatives.

The ADM Council recently approved the support towards the operationalisation of the Cooperatives Development Centre. This includes support towards cooperatives, focusing on the development of their business skills. Proposals are requested from suitable service providers to recommend a package that would ensure the cooperatives are empowered, through the identification of relevant skills, provision of a skills development plan and implementation of a training plan to address these skills.
